Facedowninshit Nothing Positive Only Negative (Black) (Vinyl LP)
Label: Relapse Origin: USA
Limited edition of only 600 copies on black vinyl! Sludge fans will draw immediate comparisons to Iron Monkey, or maybe angular doomlords Khanate filtered through Molly Hatchet, but when it comes to Facedowninshit these are compliments of the highest order. Nothing Positive Only Negative builds a mountain of godsize riffwork with the vocals of Jason Crumer and Waylon Riffs working in primitive tandem to pound the song into a bloody pulp while Ryan Wolfe's drummi...

Facedowninshit Shit Bloody Shit (CD)
Label: Crimes Against Humanity Origin: USA
Portland, Oregon's Facedowninshit does an excellent job at blending the power of bands like His Hero is Gone with the sludge metal groove of Eyehategod. You can say this is a discography disc for people who didn't pick up the self released first LP and demo. I like the tracks on the first LP a lot because it's a bit more sludgy, and the dirty production makes it sound heavier. Lyrically this band is political as fuck, but can get very poetic at times. Wonderful debut...

Falcon Self Titled (CD)
Label: Liquid Flames Origin: USA
Featuring members of Pale Divine, Cirith Ungol and Destiny's End. "On the Slab" features guest vocals by Bobby Liebling! Includes a cover of Bang's "Redman". Falcon’s self-titled debut may well have been unearthed in a 1971 time capsule, were it not for the relative youth of guitarist/vocalist Perry Grayson. Also sporting ex-Cirith Ungol man Greg Lindstrom on bass and keyboards, Falcon are a retro stoner’s wet dream, slotting in nicely next to your Captain Beyond, Pent...

Fall of the Bastards Dusk of an Ancient Age (Vinyl LP)
Label: Parasitic Origin: USA
Limited edition of 100 copies on brown marbled vinyl! A unique assault of misanthropic, blackened, melodic doom metal from Portland, OR. Torturous Sabbathesque riffs plod along miserably through melodic doom metal atmosphere and progressive death metal song structures. Some elements are very reminiscent of Soulpreacher and Bongzilla but as a whole Fall of the Bastards is METAL. The dual vocal styles switch between sludge-core screaming and death growls. This shit is ver...

Fall of the Bastards/Wormwood Split 7 inch (Vinyl 7 inch)
Label: Parasitic Origin: USA
Limited edition of only 500 hand numbered copies! Fall of the Bastards is a Portland band who merge black and thrash metal to provide some highly energetic Scandinavian influenced metal. The Wormwood tune is similar to those on their Requiescat album, a creepy two-bass-and-keyboards track of hardcore/sludge.

Fall of the Idols The Womb of the Earth (CD) (Import)
Label: I Hate Records Origin: Sweden
Artwork by Albert Witchfinder (Reverend Bizarre). The music presented on The Womb of the Earth is considerably more downtrodden and anguished than post-Epicus... Candlemass or the comparatively effervescent Count Raven. To listen to Fall Of The Idols is to be ushered, by phantasmal spirits, through collapsed, dilapidated ruins, abandoned shambles that once housed vitality and happiness. There isn't a hint of optimism to be exhumed from the suffocating m...

Fang Landshark/Where the Wild Things Are (CD)
Label: Boner Origin: USA
Rounding out the list of semi-obscure punk bands from the glorious 80's hardcore era is Fang, a bunch of earsores from Berkeley, CA whose perturbed band history had caught up to their music. Before lead singer Sam McBride went acid-berserk, killed his girlfriend, ran from the cops for 6 months and served 6 years in prison (obviously forcing Fang into a long stint of indefinite hiatus), Fang was playing some particularly incendiary, gloomy yet creepy style of hardcore t...

Like an apocalyptic beacon from the dark cosmos, Farflung awake from the cryogenic tubes with warped sensibilities and cosmic wrath... This is the heaviest and most tripped-out offering from these musicnauts to date. Dive bombing moogs, crushing riffs, and mind numbing cataclysmic overtures. This is A Wound In Eternity. Farflung A Wound in Eternity (Standard Edition) (CD)
Label: MeteorCity Origin: USA
Click here to check out the video (on YouTube) for Endless Drifting Wreck. It's a brainmelter! 'A Wound In Eternity' owes as much to Hawkwind as it does to Sleep, and at times the sound reminds me of early Monster Magnet. This is a fuzzed-out, spacey freak-out. The drums pound along in a manner that would make Keith Moon and ...

Farflung The Belief Module (Vinyl 2LP) (Import)

Deluxe gatefold sleeve. Played and recorded on vintage instruments and equipment, Farflung's fourth album, The Belief Module, continues to reflect their fascination with Krautrock and space-rock, with a harder edge by way of Hawkwind.

Farflung When Science Fails (CD)
Label: Falcata-Galia Origin: USA
Other than a small bit of spoken or chanted vocal on every track, it’s primarily instrumental guitar/keyboard/drums hypno-psyche with buildups and descents, and it’s freakin’ brilliant! The playing is excellent, and the parts all fit together with a remarkably loose tightness. The influence of Can and Einsturzende Neubauten shows heavily. Parts of this music were used in a recent German film, so the Krautrock connection makes perfect sense.

The Fat Dukes of Fuck You and Your Opinion (CD)
Label: GS Origin: USA
When one thinks of Las Vegas, the first things that come to mind are drugs, booze, long nights full of debauchery and unthinkable acts of sexual exploits. The Fat Dukes of Fuck embrace all of these things and look only to provide a soundtrack for the local scum that inhabits the filthy desert that is Las Vegas, Nevada. They suck inspiration from such unlikely heroes as The Melvins, Ween, Ministry, Faith No More and Clutch to name a few.
