A Storm of Light/Nadja - Primitive North (Blue/Silver) (2LP) Cover Art A Storm of Light/Nadja - Primitive North (Blue/Silver) (2LP)

Limited edition on silver blue colored vinyl with one side featuring beautiful laser etched artwork. Deluxe gatefold sleeve. Includes a CD of the album. NOTE: The free CD version is not the full retail version of the CD. It is a CD copy of the album included within the sleeve as a means of easily ripping your own MP3s. It does not include the jewel case or CD booklet, just the CD itself.

A Storm of Light has entered intense uncharted territories. Fusing delicate melodies with oppressive dirge metal and dense atmospherics, Storm have truly come into their own with these two phenomenal tracks. Contagious, hypnotic and haunting... although no major surprise considering A Storm of Light is helmed by frontman Josh Graham, who cut his teeth as the visual artist for Neurosis and founding member of both Red Sparowes and Battle of Mice. The prolific duo of Nadja delivers one truly massive, 20+ minute epic of blissful genius. Their track consists of their patented molasses-thick wall of super-dense fuzz and surprisingly tuneful white noise spanning the spectrum of what Nadja is: a true behemoth of stark, glacial-paced sludge. Shapeshifting from a serene and uplifting aural setting to an absolutely soul-crushing Broadrick-esque industrial nightmare, Nadja is a beast of many faces.

On "Primitive North" we get the best of both worlds, as volatile remixes also accompany these original works. Each band has reconfigured the other’s material, resulting in remixes that compliment the original songs well and perfectly blend the two groups together.

Floor - Below & Beyond (8 CD Set) (CD Box Set) Cover Art Floor - Below & Beyond (8 CD Set) (CD Box Set)

Features nearly 100 SONGS over eight CDs housed in a deluxe gatefold sleeve. Includes a 12" x 12" 32 page booklet.

South Florida’s FLOOR were around for roughly 10 years and recorded well over a dozen times during their on-and-off existence. Nearly 100 SONGS are the result of a decade of persistence amid overall underappreciation, and only in the wake of their demise did underground audio followers finally take note. Their huge body of work yielded only a few officially released records, and most of what the band recorded just collected dust in the vaults. Finally, everything ever laid down to tape by this truly ahead-of-their time outfit has been compiled into one massive release.

From the living rooms and basements of 1992 to the studios of 2001/2002, FLOOR had an incredible evolution from the GODFLESH and early-MELVINS-inspired sludge worship, to the unrivaled sugary doom/pop amalgamation which would eventually pave the way for TORCHE, HOUSE OF LIGHTNING and others. The changes in sound from recording-to-recording means the sheer variation of style (and audio fidelity) witnessed throughout this collection is astounding, and when dating these recordings against what would eventually follow, it becomes crystal clear that FLOOR were consistently operating on that fabled "next level".

Floor - Self Titled (with Bonus 7 inch) (Blue) (LP) Cover Art Floor - Self Titled (with Bonus 7 inch) (Blue) (LP)

Limited edition of only 300 copies on translucent electric blue vinyl. Includes a matching color 7" and a digital download code for the entire album. Deluxe gatefold sleeve.

This is a great record - a huge step forward in terms of bringing a new flavour to the whole sludge sound. One of the best produced heavy albums ever - at loud volumes the drums and guitars create a massive wall of sound. Definitely has crossover appeal as well.

The album will certainly have your speakers quaking under the strain. It pounds continually although I'm left will a surreal mellow vibe after each listen. The vocals have this airy echo that sometimes reminds me of early Burton C. Bell (fear factory) when he would periodically sing with clean vocals. This is one of those cds that the uninitiated can also enjoy. This is near the top of my 2002 best records list.

Grails - Redlight (LP) Cover Art Grails - Redlight (LP)

Limited edition of only 700 copies on black vinyl!!

Grails' modus operandi on Redlight is to start most tracks with barely there frameworks then slow-build to epiphanic climax and dissolve back into the red-earth clay from which each was spawned. The focal point of violin and guitar from Grails' first album, Burden of Hope, is still intact but the sound on Redlight is expanded with saxophone and pedal steel among other instruments.

Grails - The Burden of Hope (LP) Cover Art Grails - The Burden of Hope (LP)

Limited edition of only 700 copies on black vinyl!!

The guitars have a sweet hollow-body tone, the violin swoops and squeals, the drums are close-mic'ed, where you can make out every nuance of snare rattle and cymbal crash. The songs, while majestic and evocative, are almost interchangeable on Burden of Hope, their debut album all flowing into one another and telling a chapter in an album-oriented tale.

Helms Alee - Night Terror (Bleed) (LP) Cover Art Helms Alee - Night Terror (Bleed) (LP)

Limited edition of only 203 copies on clear and peach colored vinyl.

On their debut album, Night Terror, Seattle three-piece Helms Alee stands in stark contrast to the “folksy, sensitive guy with beard” brand of music that has dominated the Pacific Northwest’s music scene in recent years. Okay, so singer/guitarist Ben Verellen does, in fact, have a beard, but Helms Alee’s music is miles away from that of recent indie rock darlings Band of Horses or Iron & Wine. The band churns out heavy, epic-sounding post-rock in the vein of Pelican or Isis.

The thing that really drew me in is that the band is seriously heavy without even the slightest hint of metal. If I had to guess where this music came from, I would say that Helms Alee had the Pixies over and listened to lots of Frodus and The Dismemberment Plan records while smoking a ton of drugs and playing Fallout 3 for twenty-four straight hours with the opening sequence of Terminator 2 on repeat in the next room before going into the studio. Night Terror is a dark vision of noise, power and annihilation that is best heard at high volume and low light.

Something to be aware of...
By default, the search results include titles from The Archive. This will often give the impression that we don't do a very good job of keeping our titles in stock. This is not the case! Most of our 3,500+ active catalog titles are restocked regularly. It's the 7,500+ archived titles that are "unavailable". Use the search refinement options or do more specific searches if you're seeing too many "unavailable" items. Also, results are sorted by date with the newest releases at the top. Again, you can use the search refinement options to change this.

  • Refine by Category > All Else will hide archived titles and only show active catalog titles. (only available when there are enough search results to warrant it)
  • Sort By and Refine By Record Label Provide many options for more specific search results.
