Across Tundras - Dark Songs of the Prairie (White Splatter/Clear) (LP) Cover Art Across Tundras - Dark Songs of the Prairie (White Splatter/Clear) (LP)

Limited edition of only 100 copies with white splatter on clear vinyl!

If you play that Neurosis/Isis strain of music, how are you going to set yourself apart from the likes of Tides, Mouth of the Architect, Souvenir's Young America, Angel Eyes, Disappearer, and all the other groups that have tread the same narrow path this year? If you're Denver's Across Tundras, you embrace your inner shitkicker and bury the vocals low in the mix. Acorss Tundras' sprawling compositions have more of a rock feel. It's as if they're playing something that, if sped up, could actually boogie. There's also a twangy aftertaste, a hint of alt-country. That could draw comparisons to Earth's Hex: Or Printing in the Infernal Method, but Across Tundras isn't that ethereal and sparse. They're melancholy yet forward moving, and overall they live up to their billing of unleashing a "powerful new statement of rustic, crushing Americana".

Can't avoid the Isis comparisons but these guys do stray from the rigid mold. Songs are sprawling and the playing is really loose but stays heavy.

Book of Black Earth - The Feast (Black) (LP) Cover Art Book of Black Earth - The Feast (Black) (LP)

Limited edition of only 500 copies on black vinyl.

They are pure fury and doom. Lead vocalist Cowgill frantically lashes his throat against the spiny guitars and near-gothic keyboards. Then he pours salt in the lacerations and revels as you squirm.

The debut album by Seattle’s Book of Black Earth is a first-class exercise in what an aggressive symphonic black metal album should be: vicious, catchy, and uncompromising, without any hint of the cheesiness or pretense that plagues most acts that inhabit the genre. In fact, at most times the keyboards are so subtle and low in the mix, that it is easy to consciously miss them entirely amidst the constant barrage of deathened riffs and driving, impeccable percussion. There is something here for any fan of extreme, original black metal.

One thing impossible not to notice when listening to Book of Black Earth is prominence of the drums, which in my opinion provide a huge percentage of the band’s heaviness. As a unit this band is incredibly solid, they pound out some grinding death metal which at the end of the album leaves the listener wondering which track was their favorite, and as a result being forced to listen to the whole album again.

Coffins/Otesanek - Split LP (Bleed) (LP) Cover Art Coffins/Otesanek - Split LP (Bleed) (LP)

Limited edition of only 400 copies on transparent aqua colored vinyl! Coffins cover Goatlord's "Acid Orgy".

Coffins features members of Dot[.] and Church Of Misery so prepare your head for the most impressive, devastating and crushing Death Doom on earth in the form of an agonizing hybrid between Corrupted with early Celtic Frost/Hellhammer. Without any kind of doubt Coffins are one of the heaviest bluntest bands.

Otesanek's sparse guitars and slow tempo are akin to Khanate and Unearthly Trance. The pounding percussions bring you back from the suspension of time.

This is a brutally crushing heavy split LP!

Dodsferd - Death Set the Beginning of My Journey (LP) Cover Art Dodsferd - Death Set the Beginning of My Journey (LP)

Limited edition of only 400 copies on black vinyl.

Hailing from Greece, Dodsferd makes some of the most fucked up, psychedelic and original black metal today. The riffs are totally black metal but bring some comparisons to the crusty punk, D-Beat stuff. Great BM vocals up front with tripped out echoes in the background. Sick shit.

Fall of the Bastards - Dusk of an Ancient Age (Black) (LP) Cover Art Fall of the Bastards - Dusk of an Ancient Age (Black) (LP)

Limited edition on black vinyl.

A unique assault of misanthropic, blackened, melodic doom metal from Portland, OR. Torturous Sabbathesque riffs plod along miserably through melodic doom metal atmosphere and progressive death metal song structures. Some elements are very reminiscent of Soulpreacher and Bongzilla but as a whole Fall of the Bastards is METAL. The dual vocal styles switch between sludge-core screaming and death growls. This shit is very heavy, very complex, very good and not for the timid.

Raw black metal from Portland, Oregon with tons of blasting speeds as well as some excellent moderately paced breaks that occasional have a thrashier essence happening. The songs and the riffs are fucking killer. The bass playing and drumming are both exceptional for this style, though… as the percussion never stops moving between interesting fills and patterns, and the bass parts don't simply mimic the guitars and fall by the wayside at all.

Something to be aware of...
By default, the search results include titles from The Archive. This will often give the impression that we don't do a very good job of keeping our titles in stock. This is not the case! Most of our 3,500+ active catalog titles are restocked regularly. It's the 7,500+ archived titles that are "unavailable". Use the search refinement options or do more specific searches if you're seeing too many "unavailable" items. Also, results are sorted by date with the newest releases at the top. Again, you can use the search refinement options to change this.

  • Refine by Category > All Else will hide archived titles and only show active catalog titles. (only available when there are enough search results to warrant it)
  • Sort By and Refine By Record Label Provide many options for more specific search results.
