For all eight of the songs, the riff remains king, so while there are prog influences, the music is still as direct as a brick to the head. Armstrong’s voice reminds me of a less shrill Erik AK (Flotsam and Jetsam) or a junk free Layne Staley. Either way, it adds a gritty edge to the rough, abrasive music.
