Ahkmed Distance (CD) (Import)
Label: Elektrohasch Origin: Germany
Distance strikes me as being based in the progressive psychedelic rock aesthetic, falling somewhere between the grand statements of 35007 or labelmates My Sleeping Karma and the alt-shoegaze of Assemble Head in Sunburst Sound or The Black Angels. The band never really stretches too far in either direction, instead maintaining a pleasant balance that makes it easy to get caught up in the album's seven tracks.

All Them Witches Our Mother Electricity (CD) (Import)
Label: Elektrohasch Origin: Germany
Are you already in the mood for Spring and even better, for the Summer? Than turn on Our Mother Electricity from All Them Witches: a perfect album to do away with your slumbering winter depression. The first comparisons that come to mind: Danava, Kyuss light, old psychedelic rock like Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Mother Tongue, etc. The soundscape they are projecting is part ‘desert’, part old bluesy hard rock. There is a leading role for the drums too and you can’t help but...

Ararat II (CD) (Import)
Label: Elektrohasch Origin: Germany
Great stoned soundscapes on Ararat’s second album, II. I remember I liked their debut album, Música de la Resistencia. The same goes more or less for this album: it sounds really great, but don’t expect any radio friendly memorable mighty stoner riffs. Feauturing Los Natas’ singer Sergio Chotsourian from Argentina, this is of course interesting material if you’re into Los Natas. The album works out as one gigantic movie score and it works actively to put you in some...

Been Obscene Night O'Mine (CD) (Import)
Label: Elektrohasch Origin: Germany
Been Obscene has shown an impressive amount of development – the instrumentalization has moved up a few notches at once, the drumming has taken a flying leap forward and the psychedelic and post-rock pastures are spread more evenly and enhances the flavor quite a bit. The album is much more vocal-driven than the previous one, but that doesn’t mean the instrumental passages have lessened. In fact, the instrumental passages have, if anything, grown more complex, with at ...

Causa Sui Summer Sessions Vol. 1-3 (Vinyl 3LP) (Import)
Label: Elektrohasch Origin: Germany
Vol. 1 consists of four long, instrumental pieces - one of them a 25 minute excursion - and sees Causa Sui break into new territories, experimenting with kraut-rock electronics and elements of proto-fusion jazz as well as the more familiar fuzz-guitar journeys and stoner riffs. Vol. 2 is based around long, far out, loosely structured pieces, with lots of free jamming and adventurous jazzy explorations. Vol. 3 is more earthy and heavy, with some solid downtuned riffing ...
