"Place of Skulls have always been situated firmly in the traditional doom camp, and like The Obsessed, Pentagram, or Saint Vitus, they craft songs that are equal parts melancholy and dread. What gives Place of Skulls distinction is their use of melody, which has always been more prevalent than with their contemporaries. On Love Through Blood, the melody is accented by acoustic guitars and more reflective passages. It may not be as doomy as prior releases, but it has more of an emotional heft. For doom fans, Place of Skulls are going to be an irreplaceable loss. But at least the band is leaving us with a stellar body of work, including this EP."
