"You hear that? Sort of a filthy rumble? Kind of sounds like the soundtrack to the Four Horsemen as they rain death upon the land? Hard to believe this supergroup is a side-project, isn't it? See, Birds of Prey, the architects of the nastiness in question, is comprised of Erik Larson (Alabama Thunderpussy and about a thousand other projects), Bo Leslie (last heard in Throttlerod but currently fronting The Last Van Zant), Summer Welch (Baroness), Dave Witte (Municipal Waste, Burnt by the Sun), and Ben Hogg (Beaten Back to Pure). It's an impressive pedigree, made all the more impressive by what they've managed to come up with."
"They call it "death and roll," but I call it "fucking awesome." Birds of Prey conjures up some classic '80s thrash (of the Bay Area variety) and death metal, mixed with a more modern southern sludge grind. What I liked the most about Birds of Prey - apart from the charming song titles - is that it really doesn't sound like any of the members' "day job" bands. It's unrelenting heaviness and nastiness, and that's all the recommendation you need."
