"The fold out of the CD reveals the large letters NWOFHM, a Finnish pisstake on the semi obscure slogan New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, and that gives us some clue that CIRCLE have returned to the psycho hardcore of their brilliant 2002 album Sunrise. Finland's finest export have scaled back the krautrock and minimalist sounds in favour of raging lunatic metal punk with indecipherable and insane Finnish vocals, odd sounds, and amazingly tight musicianship, yet what they play never comes close to standard fare. When you listen to Circle it is so apparent this is a band that has something truly special going on, and that they are without a doubt at the height of their powers."

'6000 km/h' is a product line of high quality, multi-channel "live" recordings. The brand name strives to communicate "speed, dynamism and goal-orientedness". The pair of albums comprises a mutually complementing conceptual gesamtkunstwerk, the parts of which can, however, also be enj...

Forest (CD)

These fellows just keep on regenerating. Forest is, yet again, a very different Circle album. They have now totally forgotten about the heavy, crunching distorted guitar riffs, and the job is now done with acoustic guitars. There's no bass to be heard, either. What's new is the primitive, downright tribal percussion played by all the four band members, and the fast burbling synthesiser patterns and sequencers. Also the vocals are very different than on the previ...

Katapult (CD)

Label: No Quarter   Origin: USA
If you are the sort of person who likes to know, going in, exactly what you’re listening to, then Circle’s latest album will present a problem. In one sense, Katapult is 39 minutes of “what the hell is this?” In another, it is a boundary-less exploration of all sorts of music, precise as clockwork, annihilating as hurricane winds. Yet every one of these cuts contains its own contradictions and inner tensions, the mesmeric power of repetition uniting hard rock clangor ...
