The Sword Age of Winters (CD)
Label: Kemado Origin: USA
We’re talking about massive riffs and killer grooves. These nine songs are monstrously heavy. Hell, one song has wolves howling in it. Wolves don’t howl for anyone, you know. The Sword doesn’t sacrifice groove for the sake of heaviness. It’s like the band was formed by four guys who dug BTO and Mountain as much as they did Iron Maiden and Metallica. For fans of High on Fire, Dozer, Tummler, and Mastodon.

The Sword Apocryphon (Vinyl LP)
Label: Razor & Tie Origin: USA
Deluxe gatefold sleeve. Includes a download card. Apocryphon boasts in spades everything the band has been building towards over the past decade, including awesome riffs, clever lyrics, clean production, along with some totally badass cover artwork. While Age of Winters and Gods of the Earth saw the Sword releasing music that was significantly more of a doom metal sound, Warp Riders and now Apocryphon clearly shows the band moving into more traditional sounding riff-roc...

The Sword Gods of the Earth (CD)
Label: Kemado Origin: USA
There's a lot more in the realm of diversity on Gods of the Earth, while the band's core sound remains intact. Sure, the overall production is a bit crisper and the guitars indulge in some Zakk Wylde style pinch harmonics, but this is very clearly the same band that recorded Age of Winters, just with a bit more ammo in their arsenal. This a better written and a better executed album than the debut. I can see this album winning over some new fans, including tho...

The Sword Warp Riders (CD)
Label: Kemado Origin: USA
The Sword slaps us rather hard in the nuts with their third album, Warp Riders. Given their first two albums were hard and heavy, Warp Riders is no different. Without straying too far from the heavy metal, they add a bit of hard rock. The end result is a finely made album, a step in the right direction and shows that the band isn’t afraid to try something new while staying true to their roots.
