"How is it that these cats are able to seamlessly blend their appreciation for super fine atmospheric harmonics with heaviness that can only be measured on a Geiger counter? Panopticon is all about the long angle lens and the curvature of the Earth. Guitars wrap themselves in loud swirling delays and reverb. Others brace with equally loud chainsaw blasts of distortion and grind. It all feels very natural. Like the epic and sweeping flow of a musical gulf stream bringing fresh air from one part of the globe to another. At other times the guitars chime and ring off one another like church bells tuned by the devil. Sometimes the melodic and riff repetition can get a bit disorienting, like the first time you ever looked out the window of an airplane. Is the Earth really that big? There's something here for just about anyone with an ear for progressive guitar-based music."

"The songs have more depth and development than Oceanic, but still heavy and rich with texture and emotional. It is a welcome evolution."

Celestial (Re-issue) (Vinyl 2LP)

Label: Robotic Empire   Origin: USA
Limited edition of only 1100 copies on black vinyl. These lads play super heavy yet groovacious metal with that token Neurosis sound mixed with the a little Godflesh. They've achieved a very hypnotic droning landscape leaving behind their more crunchy hardcore roots.

Limited edition of only 1595 copies on thick black vinyl! Deluxe gatefold sleeve. The band's latest further explores their progressive tendencies, although this time around their approach is more intellectual than emotional. The arrangements are more complex and there's an increased sense of melody. Indeed, what's noticeable after the first listen is that front man Aaron Turner sings more than he barks and the guitars remain cleaner for longer stretches. And when he sw...

Oceanic Remixes/Reinterpretations (2CD)

Label: Hydra Head   Origin: USA
From the skeletal remains of Isis' much landed Oceanic, a new body of work has emerged, formed by the hands of some of today's most skilled aural alchemists/surgeons. The reinterpreted works range from sparse and stark ambient whisperings, to dense walls of layered noise and broken beats - at once adhering to the core vision of the creators while simultaneously probing into new areas of sound exploration only hinted at in the peripheries of the original composi...
