"With The Illusion of Motion, YOB have combined the strengths of their past work into one of the better albums of 2004. From the slow build up of “Ball of Molten Lead” to the sprawling, epic title track, YOB take doom and claim it as their own. Singer/guitarist Mike S layers his voice over the kind of riffs you could drown in. Mike, Isamu Sato (bass), and Travis Foster (drums) make a wholly unique band, taking the intricate beauty of Isis and Neurosis and merging it with the grind and atmosphere of bands like Electric Wizard and Ufomammut. The Illusion of Motion is a rarity – an album without equals, the kind that becomes a benchmark for an entire genre."

"When I first uncorked this motherfucker I was so overwhelmed I nearly fell to my knees and wept. When I dared listen to it again, I felt aware of the revolutions of the universe. My first impulse is to say that it's YOB's best album, but you don't just throw shit like that around with a band like YOB. Their first two records number among the most compelling and inspired documents of heaviness to appear in the sonic realm. The point is, the music leaves nothing to be desired, and if it does leave something to be desired it's simply more of itself. Maybe that's why The Illusion of Motion towers over everything. The repetitive sections, interlaced with the most unimaginably maniacal melodic and textural details, sound more devastating and yet more meditative than ever before. This is by far the most brutal and beautiful music YOB has released."

"Now we are presented with The Illusion of Motion and once again my feable brain was unable to comprehend what was about to be unleashed upon me. These tracks just flew out of the stereo and covered everything around me. Is this recording 55 minutes long or is it eternal? Because it never really leaves you. The magnitude of musicianship that YOB has is missed by many. They don't understand the emotional effects that music of this nature has. They are unable to see into the MUSIC, the DOOM. Doom is what these cats in YOB are all about. The Illusion of Motion is SICK."
