Producer & engineer Jack Endino (who produced Godís Balls, TADís first full-length) has lovingly remastered all of the recordings from the original tapes. Godís Balls, Salt Lick and 8-Way Santa will be available throughout the known universe on November 4th of this very year.

8-Way Santa (1991) In 1991, after tens of thousands of miles on the road in support ofGodís Balls and Salt Lick, and a run of powerful EPs/singles, TAD released their second full-length album, 8-Way Santa. Recorded at Smart Studios in Madison, WI with Butch Vig, whose work with Killdozer the band admired, 8-Way Santa finds TAD pushing their sound in new directions. Not a band to rest on its laurels, TAD began to add melodic touches to their sound, as evidenced by the lead single, ďJinx.Ē 8-Way Santa was the last record with the original TAD lineup, and their last album for Sub Pop before jumping to a major label.

Godís Balls (1989), TADís punishing, noise-drenched debut album, was recorded with Jack Endino at Reciprocal Recording in Seattle in 1988 and released early the following year. In addition to their usual arsenal of guitars, bass, and drums, the band employed a variety of unusual instruments Ė an empty gas tank from a car, a hacksaw, a large brass tube from a microwave transmitter, CB radio mics, a cello bow used on cymbals to emulate guitar feedback Ė to thunderous effect, adding a Neubauten-esque clang to the bandís rock riffs. After releasing Godís Balls, TAD flew to Europe with Nirvana for both bandsí first European tour. The now-legendary, month-long tour took the bands to the UK, Ireland, Scotland, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Italy, Denmark and Sweden.

Salt Lick (1990) After their 1989 debut album, Godís Balls, TAD continued to write and record, releasing a string of singles and the Salt Lick EP between 1989 and 1990. Salt Lick features the single ďWood Goblins,Ē the video for which MTV banned because it was, to the delicate eyes of MTV programmers, ďtoo ugly.Ē The sounds of Salt Lick are, indeed, wonderfully ugly, thanks in part to the involvement of noise-rock technician Steve Albini (Big Black, Shellac, Nirvana, The Jesus Lizard), who recorded the EP. The band continued to release singles and gain momentum in the press. As TAD himself puts it: ďLyrically we had a lot of subject matter that was meant to be tongue-in-cheek from the beginning but that was presented by both Sub Pop and us as true-to-life. The press took it all seriously and began to feed on and ravenously devour the mythology we created.Ē

Teeth of the Hydra - Greenland (LP) Cover Art Teeth of the Hydra - Greenland (LP)

Production by Sanford Parker (Pelican, Unearthly Trance, Buried at Sea).

You definitely get the feeling that these guys spin Venom, Bathory, and Celtic Frost records as often as they reach for the Sleep and Clutch discs.

Sonically, these guys cover a lot of ground, and they definitely have an epic quality to them that some of the finer black metal albums have, but there's a lot of groove and blues thrown in with the barbed-wire riffing, as well as some more atmospheric, experimental moments. Their style is heavily indebted to the prog/post metal of High on Fire's first two albums, but while Pike and Preston opted for a cleaner, thrashier sound on Blessed Black Wings, these cats sharpen up some different weapons and look for other beasts of yore to slay. There's a distinctively noisy, angular Am Rep vibe that pops up in these guys from time to time, and while the music is suitably progressive and challenging, it never resorts to wankery. What it does rely heavily on is skull pounding riffs with equal doses of deadly nightshade and narcotic mandrake. Waves of psychedelia certainly sweep through the band's metallic leanings, and add yet another dimension to their monstrous sound.

Vocally, singer Matt Miner definitely channels the same demons as Cronos, and drinks the same whiskey as Lemmy. He's not afraid to tone down his throaty, raspy, aggressive style when the tempos sway into more doomy territories, where he opts for a mellower, more spoken delivery. The rhythm section offers a tight and pronounced counter-assault to the barrage laid down by the seering guitars and roaring vox, and the production, courtesy of Sanford Parker (Pelican, Unearthly Trance, Buried at Sea) perfectly accentuates all of the band's strengths. Fans of High on Fire, Enslaved, and Celtic Frost will not be disappointed in the slightest with their trip through the Viking world of Greenland

Thergothon - Stream from the Heavens (IMPORT) (LP) Cover Art Thergothon - Stream from the Heavens (IMPORT) (LP)

This album is slow, and I mean really, really slow. At times it feels almost drone like, due to the guitars being even more simplistic. There are far fewer harmonies, just big slow single note chords, in true drone style. Thergothon is frightfully good at expressing desolation and melancholy. This is music geared at being emotionally moving and nothing else. The absolute perfect music for when you're in the mood for something completely soul devastating.

It's a slow, deadly album, and in terms of crushing despair, only Khanate would beat this band. The album has a strange mix of the bizarre and the crushing. The guitars, while they are very crushing, are also flanged, or maybe just a bit out of phase. The vocals are a mix of distant clean vocals, and.. burping? Seriously, I can't see any other way of describing it, as I don't think anyone could normally get that low. This is doom at its bleakest. The snare keeps the beat with dreary accuracy, and gives the whole album a massive death march feel. This, combined with the guitars, add up to a massive experience that you won't find anywhere else. This is a very heavy and quite inaccessible doom album, and, with the possible exception of Khanate, the most bleak and depressing thing ever released.

Immense grief. Stream From The Heavens is made up of six expressions of monumental emotional suffering and mental anguish. Finland has been known as a breeding ground for some of the most lethargic music known to man, and Thergothon were one of the first bands to initiate this movement. Crushing doom riffs thick as concrete, ultra slow, crashing drums, an almost constant eerie synth backdrop and vocals that range from inhuman, grief-stricken growling to mournful chants and spoken word to distant whispers. The gruff growls are some of the sickest I've heard put to this type of music, and are often accompanied by the mournful clean-voiced singing. There are a few moments where the atmosphere becomes tranquil, usually achieved with almost uplifting synth patterns and distant acoustic strumming. But the overall vibe is one of complete emotional decay. This is the sound of utter grief. Exhausted with life's burdens. A morose, heaving sadness desperate for deliverance. The sound of giving up.
